Kevin Bresnahan Posted January 24, 2022 Report Posted January 24, 2022 John Funkhouser - Still (Jazsyzygy Records). I have no idea where I picked this up. Must've been in one of Stereo Jack's bins. It's up on Bandcamp: https://johnfunkhousergroup.bandcamp.com/album/still Quote

I didn't know anything about it but apple music has a decent write-up summary on it (these aren't included with all albums on this platform, so it's nice when one's available). NP. This one escaped me but am listening now after seeing it upthread. Quote
Larry Kart Posted January 25, 2022 Report Posted January 25, 2022 Mosaic Tristano set, trio recordings. The last several with Ind and Alan Levitt are out of sight. Quote

Gheorghe Posted January 25, 2022 Report Posted January 25, 2022 I saw Blakey live on many occasions. I think the last one was shortly after this record was made. I think in spring 1989, in any case Javon Jackson was on tenor and Benny Green on piano. I was sittin in the first row and could enjoy Blakey´s fantastic drum sound, I like to hear them cymbals and snares very clearly. But on the album it seems they had put the drum on a very low level because I can´t hear THE powerful Blakey sound. Is this due to the way they underrecorded his drums ? Quote

Wonderful recording. Would like to have more Harold Land recordings. Great artist. 17 hours ago, soulpope said: Are these previously 'unissued" recordings or is it only another compilation? Thanks Quote
