IIRC the pairing of Jenkins and Kyner was nice -- two similar players but different enough to be different and a good contrast with Lady Q; players of the styles of Q and the two altos seldom if ever were matched on an album. The cover goes without saying. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted August 29, 2021 Report Posted August 29, 2021 My favourite early Pepper record. I'm currently listening to this one: Gonzalo Rubalcaba's Inner Voyage (Blue Note, 1999) Quote

Just finished listening to this one 4 LPs on two CDs. The first two are almost all in slow tempos and not jumping, the last with Kenny Burrell and Eddie Costa is the "jazziest". Not for those who consider Jimmy Smith the ultimate jazz organ. Edited August 29, 2021 by mikeweil Quote

ghost of miles Posted August 29, 2021 Report Posted August 29, 2021 ... so as far as I can tell, the Jazzland LPs Southern Horizons and Free Form were never reissued on CD by Fantasy? Strikes me as odd, because IMO there was already a revival of interest in Harriott by the mid-to-late 1990s, when Fantasy was reissuing so much of the label catalogue under their purview, and they could have paired these albums together on one CD, as they did for so many other artists.
