Night Flight has Nestico with the Boss Brass minus Rob McConnell.  The bonus tracks are from Nestico's earlier album, Dark Orchid.  Unfortunately, Sea Breeze is defunct, so a reissue taking advantage of the full 80 minutes of a CD to include the full Dark Orchid is unlikely.  Top-shelf Nestico here.

I have it with another cover, also with bottles.

It´s probably not Miles Davis greatest, but very unusual and interesting with Bird and Rollins both on tenor, and the three sides with Rollins, Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers and Art Taylor, with the exception of Chambers quite an unusual rhythm section for the Davis of 1956.....

Don't forget to mention PJJ on the first session. Bird and Philly together! The way the music was going.

Yes, sure, PJJ on drums is always great and as you say: Bird and Philly together.

As my record player's still broken, I'm going through a patch of revisiting old CDs from the 90s.

This morning I've been listening to:

Don Byron Plays the Music of Mickey Katz (Nonesuch, 1993); and

Sad Life by Ivo Perelman (Leo, 1996).

The Perelman is nice to revisit: one of the best records from that 90s free jazz revival. It's got a strong emotional kick that I don't get from similar records at the time by e.g. Charles Gayle.

The Byron is as silly as I remember it: what an odd concept for an album, rendered only stranger with the passage of three decades.

Strangely, it still sounds more satisfying and authentic to me than the various Zorn jazz / klezmer combinations that came in its wake, which I didn't really take too (Live in Sevilla excepted).

Fernanda Cunha, "Jobim 90"

fernanda_cunha_jobim_90.jpeg?resize=395%

When there is snow on the ground--and there are about 3" right now--I often reach for Brazilian music to lighten and warm my mood.

This is a very nice album of excellent Jobim music interpreted by a great, mature vocalist and a tight band.
