Richard Sears Sextet featuring Albert Heath "Altadena"

richard_sears_sextet_altadena.jpg

Richard Sears – piano, composition, Kirk Knuffke – cornet, Patrick Wolff – tenor saxophone, Steven Lugener – bass clarinet, alto saxophone, Garret Lang – bass, Albert Heath – drums

I ordered the new Clifton Anderson cd from Rope a Dope Records on a day when they were including two free discs with an order, and this was one of the discs they included.

Glad they did. It's very good.

Ordered. Love Tootie & Knuffke. I presume the other players are also good.

This was such a fantastic band.

But I gotta say that I whenever I listen to this particular record I am completely captivated by the sound of George Adams' saxophone.  Not what he plays or how he plays, exactly.  Just the sound.  Like he could play one note, and it would be fascinating -- because there's so much happening in that one note, so many smells and textures and feelings.

Currently listening to Khan Jamal’s Dark Warrior (Steeplechase, 1984), with Johnny Dyani on bass and Charles Tyler on alto.
