I bet that was good! I would love to see Harrell live. Never have. Edited August 14, 2020 by HutchFan Quote
Joe Posted August 14, 2020 Report Posted August 14, 2020 It occurs to me that guitarist Jerry Hahn is a much-overlooked musician. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted August 14, 2020 Report Posted August 14, 2020 Lee Konitz, Live at the Half Note Blue Mitchell, Blue’s Moods Hank Mobley, Al Cohn, John Coltrane and Zoot Sims, Tenor Conclave. Those three helped to make an exhausting 9 hour car trip with a toddler and a newborn that little bit more survivable. Quote

I am trying to think of a jazz guitarist who started incorporating rock-like influences into their playing before Hahn did, and I'm not sure I can name one. Maybe Gabor Szabo? I think that's mostly Szabo being Szabo. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 15, 2020 Report Posted August 15, 2020 Some heavy in-law stuff going down and I haven't had a lot of listening time the last few days, but I'm getting a little solo time this evening. Started off with this one, which I couldn't find for a few months and wanted to hear badly, and finally discovered it had slipped down behind a bookcase. The BossaReNova Trio, "Samba Preludio" [/img] I sure needed to hear the lovely voice of Paula Morelenbaum. [/img] I am spinning this one now--It's been too long. I really like this one, one of the first if not the first live performances of Wayne with the Quintet. The sound is very good and the playing is spirited.
