I consider this to be a 5 Star album. Frank Foster is wailing, Ted Dunbar is in top form, Mickey Tucker plays outstanding throughout, his solo on "Joy Spring" is far and away the best thing I have ever heard from him. Earl May and Billy Hart do exactly what is required.91HVMcxnCTL._AC_UY218_ML3_.jpg

Mickey Tucker an unsung pianist ....

Yes!  Let's hear it for Mickey Tucker!   And Frank Foster too!

I have this same Foster recording -- with the trashed, half-submerged car on the cover -- on a Challenge CD:

Or at least I think it's the same music. ;)

Queen City Blues

Nice!  I've seen DeGreg twice here in Cleveland, once with Ira Sullivan and once with a medium ensemble that was playing Tadd Dameron tunes.  I spotted him in January at a Benny Golson/Emmet Cohen gig in Cincinnati.

Now finishing:

As much as I l enjoyed the bulk of my first listen, I won't be able to listen to it again.  The samples of Eric Garner struggling to breathe on the last track are too hard to hear.

I saw Harold Land in 1983 with Dizzy Gillespie and he was fantastic !

And still awesome when I saw him in 1999, playing with his Quartet in his later ‘Mainstream’ style !
