HutchFan Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 Joey Baron - Down Home (Intuition, 1997) with Arthur Blythe, Ron Carter, and Bill Frisell I really like this disc. Quote
Justin V Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 I went on a bit of a Freddie Redd kick last year and will be spinning some more of his albums soon. I'm not sure what he is up to these days, but I hope he is doing well. Quote

Well, fine Music, fine compositions, but IMHO not as good as the "Connection" and "Shades of Red". I don´t want to be too harsh, but somehow the Drummer does not really Appeal to me. Quote

Yes, Riley certainly has a unique sound on tenor. I enjoyed the recording more as it went along. Now: Edited March 20, 2020 by John Tapscott Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 Skipping around in this set for some "comfort food". Quote
Justin V Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 Freddie Redd - Everybody Loves a Winner: This is the album that kicked off a Redd spree last year. The alto player, Curtis Peagler, was new to me and is joined in the potent horn section by Teddy Edwards and Phil Ranelin. Trombone instead of trumpet to round out the sextet was an inspired choice, especially when Ranelin is the trombonist. Quote
Gheorghe Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 So exiting, such a wonderful set of live music at the Montmatre. My CD copy has a bonus track "Confirmation". About the longest track "Parker´s Mood", that´s really a down home slow blues at it´s best. Quote
