Larry Kart Posted March 8, 2017 Report Posted March 8, 2017 Very impressive so far, with some remarkable work from Pat Metheny, of all people. Rest of the band is Jason Moran (on Fender Rhodes as well as piano), Nasheet Waits, and bassist Harish Raghavan. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted March 8, 2017 Report Posted March 8, 2017 The record finds Pat exploring tonal territory that began on "Tap", extended through parts of "Kin" and through to the "Cuong Vu Trio Meets PM", some of his most inspired playing in years. Quote
crisp Posted March 8, 2017 Report Posted March 8, 2017 One of my favourite new albums of last year. The starry sidemen overshadow the leader somewhat but his compositions (all but one on the album) are great. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted March 8, 2017 Report Posted March 8, 2017 Metheny has a bit of a history of playing (and playing well) on up and coming saxists' records, both Gary Thomas and Joshua Redman benefited from his presence. Quote

He's also good on Kenny Garrett's Pursuance Quote
Hot Ptah Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 The comment "Pat Metheny, of all people" leads me to wonder if the author has heard all of Metheny's recordings, under his own name and as a sideman. There are many worthy Metheny recordings. They are not all bland group fusion efforts, by a long shot. Quote
erwbol Posted March 9, 2017 Report Posted March 9, 2017 The Japanese SHM-CD has two bonus tracks. Quote
