This is without doubt the front cover:

and this the back cover:

MARION BROWN: WHY NOT. ESP-DISK' 1040 [1968]

There have been some irritations in the past, because the LP had to be inserted on the left! A joke by Bernard Stollman?

After some reissues in the same manner, a curious situation happened in 1974/1975: The last LP reissue by ESP itself in 1974 was now 'correct' for right handers

MARION BROWN: WHY NOT. ESP-DISK' 1040 [1974]

but the cover of the Japanese reissue in 1975 was still a replica of the original cover for left handers

ESP-DISK'/NIPPON PHONOGRAM BT-5009 [1975]

All LP reissues after 1975 are 'correct'! This in addition to Clifford´s informative article https://www.allaboutjazz.com/marion-brown-why-not-by-clifford-allen.php

optatio - You unintentionally just gave me a good laugh.  When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed that it was going to be about music with a left-leaning political point of view!  ;)

Being a lefty, most of the world is backwards.

Now we just need left-handed turntables to go with our left-handed album covers.  Wait, here's one:

It plays the records backwards. You hear the hidden messages. "Turn Me On Dead Man."

Oh, I did not thought of that kind of jacket. I believe this is rare! I've just found an German example in my shelf:

WOLFGANG DAUNER / EBERHARD WEBER / JÜRGEN KARG / FRED BRACEFUL. CALIG CAL 30 603 [1969]

Front cover

Inner cover left

Inner cover right with LP

But there is no confusion about front cover and back cover!

I don't think they are that rare. Offhand I can think of a handful of those "Unipaks" (had no idea they were called like this) from the late 50s and the 60s that I have among my own records:

Examples:

Lionel Hampton - The Mess Is Here (Bertelsmann 61017) (original pressing, it also existed with a standard non-foldout cover)

Epic Encore Series reissue LP series of 30s Brunswick/Vocalion etc. recordings, e.g. Artie Shaw (Free For All) and Earl Hines (Hines Rhythm)
(I one picked up a couple of LPs from this series with vinyl in excellent shape dirt cheap at a fleamarket that came from someone who apparently was so terribly bugged by this "leftie" design of the covers that he CUT OFF and discarded the front gatefold cover, making the back (track and personnel listing) the front cover and the liner notes the back cover of a "standard" "rightie" LP. :D

From what I have seen in sale bins, this type of sleeve seems to have been even more common in the field of classical music in the late 50s and 60s.

You're right! From the golden era of the 10-inches I found these vinyls:

Thanks again for the information. The term 'UNIPAK' (U.S. PATENT NO. 3,426,960) was new to me. I just found such an item in my shelf:

MITCHELL - RUFF DUO: STRAYHORN. MAINSTREAM MRL 335 [1971]

Mainstream used the UNIPAK almost exclusively for their 70's run.

Blue Note used them a lot as well, look at things like Slow Drag, Caramba, Ghetto Music, that era.
