Milestones Posted April 3, 2017 Report Posted April 3, 2017 I would love to hear some new music by Jay Hoggard and James Newton--separately, or better yet together. Quote

Me too! And, while they're at it, they should bring in Anthony Davis on piano -- since he seemed to run & record with both of those guys. Quote
Milestones Posted April 4, 2017 Report Posted April 4, 2017 At least Davis is making recent music with Leo Smith--not stuff that I'm very familiar with, but I will have to check it out. Quote
.:.impossible Posted April 5, 2017 Report Posted April 5, 2017 The Golden Quartet albums are very good and Ten Freedom Summers is another thing altogether! Quote
Peter Friedman Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Steve Nelson and Joe Locke are the living vibes played I most enjoy hearing. Bags strikes me as a key influence on Nelson. Quote

I did a couple of interviews with Burton and he was always thoughtful and very detailed in his responses. It was a joy to hear him praise budding talents like Julian Lage and the joy it gave him to discover and give direction to prodigies. He will be missed, I hope he enjoys retirement and that his health stabilizes. There's a video from the '85 Montreal festival with Nussbaum on youtube.. Quote
