mjzee Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 RIP. Made some very listenable, enjoyable albums in the late '70's. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 I knew him when we were both at the University of Iowa in the early '60s. He was a good guy. Quote
Dmitry Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) I was lucky to see him perform last year. He was wonderful, but it was obvious he was in a lot pain and could barely stand up, relying on a band member to basically carry him around. Al addressed the audience to describe his immobility as a result of bad spinal surgeries. RIP... Edited February 12, 2017 by Dmitry Quote
jlhoots Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 I met Al back when we were both teenagers in Milwaukee. Even got to play a little backup piano for him. I wasn't that good, he was very talented. R.I.P. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 RIP - always thought he was a class act. Quote
JSngry Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Exceptional skills, no matter the context. RIP, and definitely some love. Quote
Cyril Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 He often performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival and other Dutch and European stages. R.I.P. http://aljarreau.com/ Quote
CJ Shearn Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 RIP "Mornin'" is a great tune Quote
mikeweil Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 R.I.P. - I saw him perform in Frankfurt during his very first European tour, was impressed by his sensitivity. He lost me when me moved towards soul/pop more and more, but I always appreciated the rare occasions when he displayed his true jazz chops, like on Jon Hendricks' albums or his Accentuate the Positive album. Thanks for the moving moments I had with some of your singing, Mr. Jarreau! Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) As a kid I saw Al perform Take 5 on a PBS program around 1975/1976, and I started to get hooked on jazz as a result of this. I couldn't find that video. This one is close enough. Edited February 13, 2017 by Hardbopjazz Quote
