GA Russell Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) Rather than sidetrack the thread about sibremetrics, I thought I would start a new one. Who do you think is in one of the Halls of Fame that you think shouldn't be? And who do you think has been unjustly passed over thus far? Edited January 9, 2017 by GA Russell Quote
Scott Dolan Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 Well, in the NFL there's Don Coryell. He's pretty much the founder of the wide open passing attack that now rules the game. Quote
felser Posted January 10, 2017 Report Posted January 10, 2017 Baseball - at least Tim Raines and Jeff Bagwell. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 10, 2017 Author Report Posted January 10, 2017 (edited) In general, I'm not interested in sportswriters' votes on anything. But I make an exception regarding the Gold Glove. I think that that is a VERY important award, and is not sufficiently appreciated. Two people are tied with winning the most Gold Gloves (I think 16): Brooks Robinson and Jim Kaat. Robinson is already in, of course. I think that that statistic alone is enough to make Kaat worthy of induction. The fact that he also won 280 games makes him one of the best pitchers in my lifetime IMO. Edited January 10, 2017 by GA Russell Quote

Plus he was (is) an excellent announcer. Not a long enough announcing career to be HoF worthy, but it adds to his resume. Quote

Jazzmoose Posted January 18, 2017 Report Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) Well, there's the obvious Phil Rizzuto. Edited January 18, 2017 by Jazzmoose changed my mind about the one to add. Fuck Pete Rose. Quote

Soulstation1 Posted January 19, 2017 Report Posted January 19, 2017 Trevor Hoffman should be first ballot HOFer Quote
Tim McG Posted January 31, 2017 Report Posted January 31, 2017 IMHO, the Baseball HOF is fast becoming a nice guys only good ol' boy club. "Integrity" and being a squeaky clean, really nice guy seems to have pushed out exemplary play on the field. Do/say/take something untoward or piss off the writers who vote and your chances of getting in go right down the tubes. Bunch of snowflakes voting now. Then there's Tim Raines who used coke. Wow. Must have smiled a lot. Quote
