king ubu Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Seeing that Basie set on Ebay (buy it now for 1200$ or something crazy), and having the live set, I often wondered what the studio box is like. It seems they made only 3500 of it. Does anyone have a discography he's able to post here? Or just a list of the albums included? thanks, ubu Quote

jazzbo Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 (edited) 1200 dollars! Wow. . . I didn't know my set was potentially so valuable! I should listen to it more often! Edited March 1, 2004 by jazzbo Quote
Shrdlu Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 I saw that on eBay, too! You can't miss it, as the dude has it on display on the main jazz CD page. May I also say $1200, wow! Absolutely nuts, considering that many of us could easily get a burn from a friend. Basie is tops, but $1200 for 8 (was it?) CDs! When I saw the item, someone had already bid about $400, which, I think, is also ridiculous. Also, I suppose the CDs will be old 16 bit ones, with sound not up to today's standards. Anyway, we enjoy freedom of trade, and a guy can sell anything for as much as he wants. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 (edited) Ten cds in this set. I'll say one thing: the sound on the set is superb. It's better than the individual cds that have come out from the set in the last few years. Just some of the best sounding Mosaics ever. (The original recordings were very well produced by Teddy Reig!) Edited March 1, 2004 by jazzbo Quote
king ubu Posted March 1, 2004 Author Report Posted March 1, 2004 François - huge thanks for taking the pains! I was googling up and down for this one. Must be one hell of a great set! ubu Quote
neveronfriday Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 May I also say $1200, wow! Absolutely nuts, considering that many of us could easily get a burn from a friend. Who wants to be my friend? Quote

brownie Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 The Basie Roulette Studio box was excellent but the real gem from Mosaic for Basie fans was the 'Complete Roulette Live Recordings' box. That one included tons of previously unreleased material and was a true revelation of the New Testament band. That band caught live was dynamite! Quote

sidewinder Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 If the CD box goes for $1200, the mind boggles at what the vinyl version might fetch... Quote

I was lazy too, and yet some love-making guy offered me huge help... And Roulette albums are usually pretty bad-covered at AMG, I think. ubu Quote

neveronfriday Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 (edited) That was a pretty lame attempt to get out of the top spot. Try again. I can take it. Lots of it. Basie style. [Edit: Besides that, it's my birthday. Notch, notch, wink, wink, Say. No. More!] Edited March 2, 2004 by deus62 Quote
king ubu Posted March 2, 2004 Author Report Posted March 2, 2004 Want to know how king ubu treats his friends? Here you are: MERE UBU Ca m'est bien égal!

neveronfriday Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Can someone post the same info for the Roulette Live recordings (if you have them copy-'n-paste ready)? I'm making some covers and am having difficulties. Cheers! Quote
