Happy Birthday, Mr. Heath!  I saw him play twice in Detroit last month, with his quartet plus Robert Gambarini and guesting with Randy Weston's big band, and he sounded great, as always.  I also saw him do a talk with Randy Weston, which was a fascinating and often humorous discussion.  Jimmy Heath is a national treasure.

A recent concert with his big band revealed an artist still full of life and a master composer. I got him to sign his autobiography and pose for a pic afterwards. Happy birthday!

I saw him with Javon Jackson and Benny Golson last December if memory serves, a fantastic concert. I brought the book with me but there was no chance to ask him to autograph it. :(

Time for some Gap Sealer! Happy bday mr. Heath!

That, "Love and Understanding", and the delayed-release "Time and the Place" were an amazing run of early 70's masterly recordings!

I've seen Tootie once at the baked potato sitting literally right in front of him- the only Heath brother Ive seen

Tootie lives here in Santa Fe & plays occasionally.

The last time I saw Jimmy was in New York at "Dizzy's Club Coca Cola" 6 years ago.
