Hardbopjazz Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 90 years young today. Here's to many more to come, Quote
Justin V Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 Happy Birthday, Mr. Heath! I saw him play twice in Detroit last month, with his quartet plus Robert Gambarini and guesting with Randy Weston's big band, and he sounded great, as always. I also saw him do a talk with Randy Weston, which was a fascinating and often humorous discussion. Jimmy Heath is a national treasure. Quote
Gheorghe Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Happy B-Day to that fantastic musician and composer ! Quote
mr jazz Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 A recent concert with his big band revealed an artist still full of life and a master composer. I got him to sign his autobiography and pose for a pic afterwards. Happy birthday! Quote

I brought the book with me but there was no chance to ask him to autograph it. Quote

felser Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 I saw him once, in the 70's. With the Heath Bros. (Tony Purrone version) at the Empty Foxhole Cafe in the basement of St. Mary's church on Penn's campus. Got to talk to him a little before the show, very kind man from what I remember. https://phillyjazz.us/2015/03/08/genos-empty-foxhole-2/ Quote
