Free For All
Um, it's my first post on the board, and I know giving a rec for an artist screams PR flak, but I'm really just a listener. I think you're safe. First off, your name isn't Heather. You're not "just stopping by" to hip us to a "new and exciting artist" that everyone says is the "future of jazz", etc. Those folks we eat with a side of fava beans and a fine Chianti. Welcome. Plus, you didn't use the term "jazzy".
mjzee
There's an interview with Adam Klein, President and CEO, eMusic, in the 1/24/11 issue of Financial Times (which, alas, I cannot link to). In the interview, he says eMusic is "pretty close" to an agreement to carry EMI.

Free For All
LOTS of new titles just added. Much of the Blue Note catalog.
Dave James
Finally withdrew after about eight years. Once I figured out how to peel audio off of YouTube videos, I found I no longer had much need or enthusiasm for eMusic. Of course, they're trying to woo me back with great short duration deals, but I'm having none of it and zero withdrawal symptoms. I'm sure I can find someplace else to drop $120 a year in discretionary income without having to look too hard.

mjzee
They've also added a lot of the Vanguard catalog, also Caroline (Beefheart, etc). Good drop.
sonnymax
They've also added a lot of the Vanguard catalog, also Caroline (Beefheart, etc). Good drop. Yes, and I'm especially glad to see Bunky Green's Places We've Never Been and the two dates by Dave Burns for download. I wish they were cheaper, but they're $3-4 more everywhere else. A Lark Ascending
The UK version of e-music promised us some major labels when they shifted to the US pricing system last Autumn. No sign yet. Not that I'm complaining - I have no trouble using up my monthy quota with what is there.

mjzee
The Boswell Sisters Collection (Storyville): 5 CDs (no DVD) for $4.40. eMusic
sonnymax
Since we're posting good deals from Storyville, may I suggest: Howard McGhee, Teddy Edwards & Benny Bailey - Jazzcraft Studio Recordings 1978-79 This 2CD set, also only $4.40 at eMusic, contains the LPs Young At Heart & Wise In Time by McGhee & Edwards, as well as Home Run by McGhee & Bailey. Not the best work by these fine artists, but there's plenty of good swinging to go around, imo.

mracz
Recommendations (or otherwise) for one or both of these, please? I'm not a Parker completist, but I have an awful lot and am not averse to new acquisitions if they come recommended. As an emusic subscriber these could be very tempting. In fact, I'm not sure if I've got ANY of this material...
John L
Get the second one: Bird 1950. It contains all of the so-called "apartment sessions" that feature some of Bird's most amazing playing. The Paris 1949 is also great music, but rather poor sound quality.
