clifford_thornton Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Not sure if there are any Suicide fans here, but I love their early music (less familiar with recent stuff he & Rev did). Vega had been ailing for a while so I don't think this was a total surprise, but still sad. http://pitchfork.com/news/66862-suicides-alan-vega-dead-at-78/ Quote
romualdo Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 One here - big fan of Suicide - still play their vinyl My son texted me this morning with the news - we were only talking about the duo the other day Didn't realise he was that age (78) - thought he was in his 60's Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 18, 2016 Author Report Posted July 18, 2016 Yeah, it's somewhat wild to think about the fact that he was nearly 40 when he and Rev (a former student of Lennie Tristano) started Suicide. Quote
felser Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Not familiar with them. What are some youtube cuts that are good intros? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 18, 2016 Author Report Posted July 18, 2016 I'd start with Frankie Teardrop and go from there. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted July 19, 2016 Author Report Posted July 19, 2016 whole thing should be on YT, as is the live LP from that time. Quote
MomsMobley Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 later Suicide is pretty horrid, Rev a fount of bad ideas / poor sounds & Vega barely sounds he like he's trying; he does't sound that much better here but he fills the role with Pan Sonic who never 'phoned it in' vega obscured his age a LONG time, his art gallery shows where noted in early '70s along w/ early Suicide, the 1960s are his mystery decade, presumably worked straight jobs but ???
