I`m positive a chance will come up .... this is (IMO) superb ....

I've seen it a few times for $25 -- but I've never gone for it.  I guess I should have.

I wonder who owns the rights to Musica Records now?  I wish some of their catalog would be reissued. Along with that Solal Ellington LP, I've always wanted to hear the Solal & Joachim Kühn duo LP, as well as others by Mal Waldron, Jimmy Rowles, Al Haig, Michel Graillier. . .   None of them are easy to find over on this side of the pond.

Oh well. Don't mean to digress from the topic of the thread. ;)

No idea about today`s Musica ownership - but in NM/VG++ condition I would go for the Solal platter @ USD 25 in a heartbeat :D ....

Good to know -- especially from a "trusted advisor"!

Odd one - came out on the Discipline label that used to carry Robert Fripp's stuff. Mainly less well known pieces played in that folk-ragtime style that was popular in the 60s/70s. Guitar seems a bit out of tune in places but enjoyable enough - I particularly liked the arrangement of 'Morning Glory'.

If you want a laugh have a look at the Amazon reviews - all very positive and then a braggadocio musician rips it to shreds.

Just beginning to dig into this release, and it is pretty fascinating. It features no Ellington or Strayhorn compositions, BUT, as the liner notes make clear, two of the the Praker originals here were commissioned by Ellington about the time of Strayhorn's death (and were apparently accorded a very favorable reception) but never recorded. Colorful, tightly arranged but somehow freewheeling and rhythmically complex music that I'm guessing the Duke of The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse would have appreciated.
