Stan Tracey may have come closest of any pianist to the essence of Monk's piano art. Especially Monk's terrific swing. On a good night both of them could blow ou and me away. Quote
Gheorghe Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 Bud Powell "A Tribute to Thelonious" from around 1961 is nice, though some compositions are not Monk. Another rare album with about the same title was from 1964 (solo in Paris and trio in NY) with only Monk Tunes. The only time Bud played "Bemsha Swing". Quote
