DTMG is selling a whole bunch of these compilation sets (i.e. Horace Silver Complete 1952-62, Mal Waldron Complete 57-59) that appear to be label-independent for about $4-5/disc.  Seems shady to me.  Anyone know anything about these?

These, and others like these, have been discussed many times here.  Your instincts are correct: these sets are made by a company that does not have the rights to this material and has not licensed it.  They are widely available.  Amazon, for example, has the Silver box for $14.99 prime.  Not clear to me how much DTMG is charging for the box.

Yeah, we spend so much time seeking an avoidance of restrictive labels that it actually sounds pleasantly liberational, unlike "ownership neutral" which is sorta nervous & manifesto-y. :g
