I haven't heard this one yet and I'll be curious to see what people say. The band that backs Curtis is made up of the guys I played with in Chicago (at the Green Mill) for 8 years or so. (Brad Goode, trumpet; Karl Montzka, piano; Stew Miller/ Larry Gray, bass; Tim Davis, drums). They're all great players, don't let the unknown names put you off buying the CD.

I'll be curious to see what people here think of the trumpet player, Brad Goode. Some people like his playing, some don't.

I hope Curtis sounds good on this one. No reason to think he won't, I guess.

Just picked this up at Borders (had a 10% off coupon). Haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing but from what I've heard it sounds great!!! Curtis sounds really nice on this one and I really like Brad Goode on Trumpet.

Listening to it right now--nothing too remarkable, save for the pleasure of hearing Curtis Fuller still performing and running through a set of standards. Overall (well, I'm only halfway through the disc), I give it the .

Yes, Curtis does seem to be in pretty good form for this album, better than I expected. He's not the same player he was in 1957, but I've heard him several times in recent years, and this is really good, and compares well with anything he's done in a long time. We're not talking about someone in the sort of sad state that Freddie Hubbard is in today. Curtis can still play and this is a fine mainstream session.
