scottb Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I just got my copy of GET BORN by JET from BMG. This group is the real deal. They do the STONES better than the STONES are currently doing the STONES. I hear some WHO and KINKS and BEATLES as well. Good stuff! Add them to the list of BLACK CROWES, LENNY KRAVITZ...(pretty short list) of artists making real rock these days. Quote
RDK Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I know them only by that one song of theirs that would be the hit single if they still made singles. Caught them on SNL a while back as well. I like what I've heard so far. Quote
Tim McG Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Whoa. You bought a Rock CD? Can the Blues be far behind...? Quote
medjuck Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Hey my son got me that one for Xmas because I liked their hit so much. Good cd. Quote
Saint Vitus Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I have the 4-tracks EP they put out and kinda like it ... But I have passed on buying the album based on lukewarm reviews from my buddies ... I liked the catchy single the minute I heard it on the radio, but the vocal lacks something ... I cannot quite put a finger on what it is but it's something Iggy definitely shows he has on "Lust for Life." Quote
Big Al Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Yeah, I like that song, too! If for no other reason than because I always think of that girl from The Big Bounce whenever I hear it. Bought a rock CD? Heck, I went to a Weezer concert a summer ago with my daughter and some of her friends and had the time of my life! Quote
scottb Posted February 27, 2004 Author Report Posted February 27, 2004 It's not that I'm opposed to buying rock, its just there hasn't been much rock I care to buy in recent years. My last few rock purchases are things like FORTY LICKS, BLACK CROWES GREATEST HITS, BLACK SABBATH, Jimmy Page and Robert Plants latest effort. About the last new rock band I liked was Pearl Jam. Couldn't care less about Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Stained or any of these other wuss bands. Creed sounded like Pearl Jam so why bother. Come to think of it I did like that song by that "super group" with the drummer from Nirvana (not Foo Fighters) the one with the deer driving around with the band on the hood. Can't think of the name. Quote
tonym Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 As long as it's not The Darkness. Don't tell a soul when you get that one. cheers, tonym Quote
Sundog Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 As long as it's not The Darkness. Don't tell a soul when you get that one. cheers, tonym I kind of like that Darkness song. I know its totally cliche but..... B) The Jet album is good. Nice and "jangly" Quote
PHILLYQ Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 LENNY KRAVITZ as a real rocker????????? Quote
Parkertown Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Come to think of it I did like that song by that "super group" with the drummer from Nirvana (not Foo Fighters) the one with the deer driving around with the band on the hood. Can't think of the name. That would be Queens Of The Stone Age with their album Songs For The Deaf. I heard they just broke up. That was a cool, twisted video. Quote
BruceH Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Add them to the list of BLACK CROWES, LENNY KRAVITZ...(pretty short list) of artists making real rock these days. What about Fountains of Wayne? Quote
DTMX Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 I just bought two of the Black Sabbath CDs with Ronnie James Dio as a member. I don't know why. I think the devil made me do it. That or Tenacious D. Quote
GregK Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 in the rock realm I closely follow King Crimson with all their collector's club releases, etc, and I've been sampling Ryan Adam's output here and there, along with Whiskeytown, but most of my listening is still 80-90% jazz Quote
DTMX Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 I closely follow King Crimson with all their collector's club releases Those King Crimson Collector's Club releases with Mel Collins have been making a dent in my savings. Quote
GregK Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 I closely follow King Crimson with all their collector's club releases Those King Crimson Collector's Club releases with Mel Collins have been making a dent in my savings. yeah, me too. I'm glad they are releasing those, to show how good that version of the band really was. Closest to jazz for Crimson too Quote
DTMX Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 yeah, me too. I'm glad they are releasing those, to show how good that version of the band really was. Closest to jazz for Crimson too The current version of the 21st Century Schizoid Band is made up of Mel Collins, Ian MacDonald, Ian Wallace, Peter Giles and the guitarist from Level 42. About as close to the Islands line-up as you can get. I hope they're playing some improv stuff in the vein of Earthbound or Peoria when they come to Atlanta next month. Quote
