ejp626 Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 I liked The Holdovers quite a bit, though it did kind of seem like an alt. universe version of The Breakfast Club where the Judd Nelson character bonds with the teacher. 😋 Quote

I generally agree, but this one had a Wes Andersonish touch that I kind of liked. And Mark Ruffalo is great fun in it. That said, it is an odd film. Edited January 13 by gmonahan Quote

ejp626 Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 Just back from Exotica at TIFF Lightbox. This was a special screening because Atom Egoyan was in attendance and told some quite interesting stories about shooting this film and some of his other work. Very glad I made it. I gather there is a new edition of this out from Criterion. https://www.criterion.com/films/29270-exotica Quote

I've seen it twice and between viewings read the book on which it's based. The book is great but I think the changes made for the film were necessary for it to work as well as it did in that medium. ejp626 Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 Friday I saw Drive-Away Dolls. It was entertaining but not a great movie. But it was apparently intended from the first to be a B Movie with a lesbian slant. Despite it being set in 1999, you never see a single person in a car with a seat belt. Then today I saw Kurosawa's High and Low at a 2nd run house. This was the first time seeing it. This is a great movie, though I personally preferred the second half, which is more of a police procedural. Quote
gmonahan Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 Went to see "One Life" with Anthony Hopkins. It's a weeper, but well made, I thought. Quote
