jazztrain
A few days ago, Sidewinder asked (in another thread): >>> 'Bebop Highlights' (Temple M-555). Parker/Gillespie/Powell air-check jam from circa 1951. Anyone know anything about this 'Temple' label and where it came from? >>> I thought this belonged in the Discography forum. Information available on line is inconclusive. There are references to it being a UK label, a Danish label, or perhaps a Boris Rose label. My best guess is that it was a Danish label. It seems to be unrelated to the 78 rpm reissue label of the same name. Here's a summary of the issues that I could find: Temple M-550: Duke Ellington And His Orchestra 1940-1941 Temple M-551: Ellington at Fargo, Vol. 1 Temple M-552: Ellington at Fargo, Vol. 2 Temple M-553: Count Basie at the Savoy Ballroom, 1937 I can't find a picture of this issue on line. Temple M-554: Duke Ellington And His Orchestra 1941-1943 Temple M-555: Bebop Highlights
Big Beat Steve
I would have guessed this to be a Boris Rose label too. Maybe European-pressed, but Boris Rose source material. The covers look familiar to others in that vein, e.g. CARACOL.

JSngry
What's the earliest documented recording date for known Bois Rose material?
