I don't remember how I got on their mailing list, but I was lucky enough to get their mailings (pre-"brochure") from the get-go. I bought the Monk LP's. Later on I sold it (along with the Clifford Brown and Tina Brooks LP sets) when it was all out on CD.

I got started with Tristano/Konitz/Marsh, probably around 1998 - it was pretty new when I got it, but not the latest release anymore, I guess.

Oh how I miss some of the older ones that were never reissued on any other label!

Monk on Blue Note was my first, I think when it was just out.

Got the Mulligan/Baker, Ammons/Lewis and Art Pepper with the second order.

Then I believe it was the Tina Brooks.

I intended to get them all, but funds wouldn't allow .....

Jimmy Smith at a used store, Disk Union, in Tokyo around three years ago. The price was around $14 per disc and since then I have bought several more OOP sets at the same price from various Disk Union outlets. Love them all.

First set was probably Buck Clayton early 1990s. The begining of an addiction.

Today I got a message from the post office that the last order Woody Herman & Johnny Hodges has arrived. The Hodges was a sort of precautionary maneuver; Verve sets can sometimes go OOP without warnng.

Favorite sets; for variety; the Capitol set; otherwise JJ Johnson, Gerald Wilson and now Gerry Mulligan.

As a parenthesis; I have read somewhere that men unlike women tend to make everything into a project (vacations, whatever); if true I suppose we have an explanation as to why mosaic collecting appears to be a hobby not always approved of by spouses and girl friends.

Sometimes the newspapers have stories of weird collections and their (almost normal) owners. I think the latest was someone who crammed his house and garage full with old radio and TV-sets. I then take the opportunity to point out to my wife that as far as collecting habits are concerned, collecting Mosaic sets is by far not the worst. This observation, I regret to say, has not yet made much of an impression.
