Northern Spy

"...Entirely new and entirely now...They produce a post-jazz, post-rock, post-everything sonic experience that has few parallels or rivals. They may teach us to listen in a new way, but they communicate a fierce energy and warmth at the same time. Their music is a thrilling, emotional journey into the unknown. Like seeing a world in a grain of sand, The Necks permit us to hear a whole new world of music in a sliver of sound" – The Guardian

In March 2016, Aussie band The Necks will tour the United States for the first time since a North American label has released their music. The first time since 2011. Over the last half decade, fans of experimental improv music in North America could only live vicariously through rave reviews of their live sets in Europe and Australia. Now, on their 30th anniversary as a band (!!), this transcendent minimalist trio finally announces plans to once again set foot on this side of the pond.

In late 2015, The Necks released Vertigo on CD and LP on Northern Spy Records. Like the 17 albums before it, the distinctive work showcases a bass/drums/piano trio working with dynamic chemistry and deep creativity that deserves to be called “one of the greatest bands in the world,” as they were in the pages of The New York Times. Vertigo is only the band’s second album to be released by a North American label; Northern Spy released Open in 2013. Both Open and Vertigo are critically acclaimed and were featured on “best of the year” lists in the New Yorker, SPIN, New York Times, Wire Magazine, and more.

For a limited time, buy Open and Vertigo together to receive 25% off the regular list price. Use the discount code twentyfiveoffnecks.

Stream both albums on bandcamp here.
