sidewinder Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 That's very sad to hear. A regular visitor over here and to Ronnie Scott's back in the day - RIP. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Amazing that the obit to linked to in the initial post should expresly mention the 1956 European/Swedish tour with Rolf Ericson. It's easy to imagine this was an eye-opener as far as the open-mindedness of the audiences and general public was concerned but on the other hand it must have been a surreal experience in other ways. Rolf Ericson was forced to replace all four instrumentalists after less than one month because they were so junked out as to be unusable for the demands of such a tour. According to the news coverage in Swedish jazz mags Ernestine Anderson was the one who tried to hold things together (and of course stayed on for the remainder of the tour) but to no avail ... Quite a personality she must have been ... R.I.P. Quote

sidewinder Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Didn't realised that she had actually lived in London in the mid-1960s - engaged to the UK alto player Peter King around that time, I believe. I remember her mid-70s 'comeback' with recordings for Concord and very regular stints at the Scott club right through the 70s and 80s, although don't think I ever heard her perform there. Quote
Gheorghe Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 I loved very much what she did, especially on Ellington tunes. Strange, few days ago I frequently listend to her records. RIP Quote
Justin V Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 I only first heard her in the last year or so, after picking up Live at the Alley Cat by the Capp-Pierce Juggernaut and later her album, Never Make Your Move Too Soon. She had such a rich, deep voice that was equally at home belting out a blues or caressing a ballad. I'll be checking out more of her work in the future. Thank you for the music, Ms. Anderson, and rest in peace. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) I was just listening to this yesterday which features 2 tracks from Ernestine. Edited March 20, 2016 by Tom 1960 Quote
