ghost of miles Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) A significant day! Every time a March 3 rolls around, I remember that as the "day of infamy" in Blue Note bulletin board history (it was the day they suddenly truncated and severely modified the board), and while doing a search for any previous topics about said board, came across the release date for Waiting For The Boogaloo Sisters. My, how time... does whatever it does. Glad to see both the group and the O still in good health after all these years. Edited March 3, 2016 by ghost of miles Quote
sidewinder Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 It amuses me to recall all of the stragglers checking in on this board and announcing their presence ! Quote
jazzbo Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 I remember being one of those stragglers! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 same here. I was "cherryco" on the BNBB. Can't remember who I am these days. Quote
paul secor Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 It's great that so many of us are still here - and even greater that Jim has kept this board going for thirteen years. It can't have been easy. So thank you, Jim. Quote
John L Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 It's been a great place to interact about jazz, better than the Blue Note Board ever was. Quote
JSngry Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 ...and not just jazz...the number of members here who know a lot of things about a lot of different musics...I feel free (enough) to throw things up here that I'd not in any other environment because i know that there will be that common bond of "jazz" in the responses, that even if I'm getting it "wrong" there will be an understanding of why I might be so doing. Rightly or not, that feeling of freedom to inquire and share and grow means a lot to me personally. Quote
Joe Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Wow. 13 years. Crazy to think I've known many of you now -- albeit some only virtually -- for almost two decades. Quote
mjzee Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Yup, it's been a great run so far. But if I can hit a cautionary note: what if all the info on this board were to disappear? It's too bad it can't all be archived in some fashion. Quote

Eric Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Same reaction - wow - 13 years. Motherhood, apple pie, hot dogs and "that board you are always looking at" Quote

paul secor Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Then perhaps it will be much the same as Eric Dolphy's statement: "When you hear music, after it's over, it's gone in the air. You can never capture it again." Nothing lasts forever. Quote

(well, at the very least, my Charlie Parker collection is safe, isn't it ... isn't it?). Q. Quote

There's an amazing number of incredibly knowledgeable people here -- but the overall vibe is very open and inquisitive and chilled. You don't find that sort of combination often, especially on the intranet. I'm not a BNB vet like many of you. Relatively speaking, I'm still a newbie here at organissimo. But I'm glad to be a part of it. Quote
erwbol Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 It would be interesting to read a webarchive of that old Blue Note bulletin board. Any pointers? Quote

BFrank Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 The BNBB seems SO long ago! It was great for most of its life, but collapsed under an avalanche of infighting and endless bitching about Nora Jones. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, the good old days ... Quote
