Long history of 'guilt oscars' where they give it to the one they snubbed previously.

I must have about 100 Morricone albums.  While this one is not likely to crack my top ten favorite list, it is very effective both within and outside of the film.  It is very appropriate that he is being recognized for the kind of edgy film that put him on the map to begin with.  I will take Hateful 8 over any of his other nominations, such as Days of Heaven, The Mission, The Untouchables, etc.

The Mission was an outstanding soundtrack.  Hateful 8, not so much.  His music barely made an impression in the film.

My favorite Morricone scores are from edgy films, including the Spaghetti Westerns and Giallos.  I am glad he won for a score for that type of film, instead of something Oscar-ready like The Mission.
