chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 so the movies plot is someone stole miles's master tape and miles goes on an action-adventure rampage to get it back? count me in! Quote
sidewinder Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 Looks more like an episode of Starsky & Hutch ! Quote
BillF Posted February 5, 2016 Author Report Posted February 5, 2016 Second only to Raging Bull. Not much sign of The Man Walking on Eggshells in those clips. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 I'm psyched that it is a comedy! Quote
Scott Dolan Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) Ummm... So if it mostly focuses on late period Miles why was the majority of the sound track Kind Of Blue? Edited February 5, 2016 by Scott Dolan Quote

Scott Dolan Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 The later sequences had KOB playing as well. I just wonder why Cheadle didn't go with that period. Quote
BillF Posted February 5, 2016 Author Report Posted February 5, 2016 In this interview which Dmitry posted Cheadle says he doesn't go for chronology and is happy to have Kinda Blue in 1969, etc, etc. Phew! https://youtu.be/bTKFotWCPaE Quote
king ubu Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 Sorry, but I think it looks like utter shit. Quote

Yeah, I can't say I was impressed by the trailer. Looks like a buddy action movie. Fuck that. Quote
JSngry Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 Kind Of Blue music and On The Corner characters. The Great Reconciliation begins, perhaps quite accidentally, perhaps not. Quote
Joe Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 This film is purportedly set during Mile's mid-70s "retirement," right? Quote

Fuck that. Was it not ever thus? Movies about jazz have nearly always been made for mass audiences and not for jazz fans. I was reminded of this recently when I tried - unsuccessfully - to watch for a second time the recent jazz drumming saga, Whiplash. Quote

Well received by cinema audiences generally. The problem seems to be if you know anything about drumming, jazz, music - things like that. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 Is there a scene where he plays to a bunch of posh folks who initially look outraged and then start to tap their feet? Jazz aficionados are going to be able to lunch out for weeks on how unimpressed they were with this new film. I feel a Ken Burns situation a'comin' on. Quote
Milestones Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 Cheadle seems to have Miles' voice down pretty well. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 I hope there is a car chase scene with an explosion. Wouldn't that be AWESOME? Quote
GregK Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 I'm not that familiar with Miles' life story. Was he really punching and shooting that often? Quote
jazzbo Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Just wives and girlfriends. . . .;) Quote
ArtSalt Posted February 14, 2016 Report Posted February 14, 2016 The trailer left me pleasantly surprised. From the initial press releases when it was in development I expected the worse, everything sounded wrong: Miles in his 70s retirement, some kind of gangster movie as we watch the primitive trying to score drugs. Thankfully, it appears to be a wider scope than this. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 14, 2016 Report Posted February 14, 2016 i might see it in the theatre, i guess- i mean im not gonna 'get' any more out of it at the theatre than if i watched it next yr on nextflix or whatever...........i mean its not like it was shot in cinemascope and its only showing for 7 days, every 5 years. i might wait till netflix Quote
