Brad
I hope this is all totally tongue in cheek because despite what I said I went back and listened to the Tristano (Atlantic 1224) and I was quite impressed by the music making, esp. Line up and Requiem. His playing (as is the whole band's) on the live set with Konitz is also quite fantastic. I'm not sure I can afford the set though; I just found out I have to replace my brakes. LAL
Mike, here´s some information on it: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=9037 Licensing problems. Oh my poor little purse ... thanks for reminding me about this! Thanks EKE for covering. I'll admit though that the JJ comment was pure speculation. But since it's the oldest in-print CD set on the Mosaic list, it must surely time out very soon. It'd be great of course if it stays around for a while longer so more folks can discover the excellent music on this set.
LAL
I'm dead wrong on the JJ set. According to Mosaic, it'll still be around (barring a sudden surge of sales) at least into a good part of 2005. B)

Brad
For those of you still considering the TKM set, there are 80 left (oops, make that 79). I had to go up to Stamford today to see a doctor and I just couldn't resist going to Melrose Place. Unfortunately Michael wasn't there for me to continue my Three Sounds indoctrination and neither was Scott to find out what's in the pipeline. Yes, I'm an addict. I have no Mosaic control. There, I got it off my chest

Brad
I've started listening to this set and I realize what a huge mistake I almost made by not getting it. If you don't have it, and are on the fence, jump off right now. The session by Lennie and Lee at the Sing Song Room that's on disc one is pure, pure gold. Beautiful music. A must have in my view. J.A.W.
I asked Mosaic's Scott a few minutes ago how many Wynton Kelly / Paul Chambers Vee Jay, Lee Morgan / Wayne Shorter Vee Jay, Tristano / Konitz / Marsh Atlantic, and Teddy Wilson Verve sets are left. He told me they still have plenty of the Vee Jay sets; he confirmed that they were not able to reprint them after the New Year. They also have plenty of the Teddy Wilson till the end of the year when it will also go OOP. As for the Tristano they have about 50 copies left. Edited April 21, 2004 by J.A.W. So who's the odds on favorite for the next running low? If I'm going to pick up Teddy, might as well get another....who should it be? Unless you've already got it... the order-of-release date tells me to go with the JJ Johnson Mosaic. Or, the EXPENSIVE Capitol Jazz Mosaic box. jacknife
Or, the EXPENSIVE Capitol Jazz Mosaic box. Ya, I've been eyeing that for a long time, just haven't been able to pull the trigger on it yet! That one is definately in the procrastinator category Already got the JJ so I'm good there. wesbed
Already got the JJ so I'm good there. Next on the list is the Hank Mobley, Kenton Presents, and the Hot Record Society. I was not going to buy the Kenton Presents or have any interest in it. Then I read a thread at AAJ where a couple of people had given it rave reviews. If you like West Coast jazz, they'd written. Of course, I like both East Coast and West Coast jazz. So, I have to get the goddamned Kenton box. Edited June 29, 2004 by wesbed
wesbed
Okay. Allright. Okay. Okay. I'm okay. Okie dokie. Doing just fine... Okay. Okay. Okay! Just... stop it. Okay? Yeah, yeah, whatever. It seems like I posted, elsewhere on this board, that I was NOT interested in purchasing the Teddy Wilson Mosaic. Errr... well, right now, tonight, I am considering purchasing the Teddy Wilson box. Yes, I'm thinking about it. So... besides the Malcolm Addey remaster, and the limited edition status, and the Mosaic name on the box... ahhhhhem... what else makes this set worth buying? Anything? Anything? I need a little help here. Just a little nudge. And this beauty is all mine. ALL MINE! Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Keep away. It's MINE! The Teddy Wilson won't go OOP till I get MY copy. Mine! Or, maybe I won't buy it. It's not like I 'need' it. Do I? Wait... I can make some space on my shelf right now... yeah, that's it... just in case I do decide to make my purchase of the Teddy Wilson Mosaic box. I'm ready. Yeah. Ready. Ready Freddy. LAL
Buying $1 less a day of 'junk' food or 'junk' anything for the next 3 months should help pay for the Teddy Wilson. Add another 2 months at $1 or $.70 for the 3 months if you want the Kenton set too. Easy no? Wild guesses at next to be on Running Low list: Hodges, Kenton Presents, Mobley and Capitol. But, always best to check direct from the horse's mouth.
cliffpeterson
the j. j, johnson, hrs sessions, and mobley set limits are 7,500 copies, not 5,000, which might suggest that their license terms were intended to run longer than 5 years. If so, none of these three sets may be designated "running low" for a year or more. the copyright dates at the bottom of the on-line discographies for the johnson, wilson, and mobley sets, which might indicate when they were first issued by mosaic, are respectively 1996, 1997, and 1998. These dates might be further evidence that the johnson and wilson sets had longer terms than five years with the original license or that the original license terms were extended. the online hrs discography has no such date on it. the mulligan is also 7,500 copies and somewhere we were told that 2,500 copies were designated for europe and that those were all sold out. if so, then an assumption that if there were 2900 mulligan sets already sold and that that number included those in europe, would result in the implication that only 400 had been sold domestically. on the other hand, if 2900 sets had been sold in addition to those slated for europe, and all those sets in europe were sold, then the mulligan set would seem to be selling extremely well. whew!! I need a cup of coffee. Edited June 29, 2004 by cliffpeterson
