A Lark Ascending Posted February 4, 2016 Author Report Posted February 4, 2016 I'm not holding my breath. The only Santana record I've enjoyed since the mid-70s is Stevie Winwoods's 'About Time'. Quote

BFrank Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 That's definitely Winwood's best album of the past few decades! Quote
gvopedz Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 Original Santana band reborn in Las Vegas http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2016/03/21/original-santana-band-reborn-las-vegas/82098122/ Quote
paul secor Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 Just saw in the N.Y. Times that Santana (the band) is playing locally here at a theatre in Poughkeepsie. Tickets are priced from $150 to $275. I just emailed a friend that I wouldn't go if tickets were priced from $1.50 to $2.75. Quote
BFrank Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 I just finished listening to it. It's frustratingly inconsistent. Some interesting stuff and a lot of meandering "jamming". It's being streamed on NPR until the April 15 release date here: First Listen: Santana, 'Santana IV' Quote
l p Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 Saxondale: "Whenever I hear Santana I just can't help grinding my hips." "Well, when you finally succumb to the replacement op, make sure you send the bill to Carlos Santana. And don't let him fob you off with any plastic and cement shit! The guy's coined it in over the years from his latin rock. Sting him for a durable porcelain ball and socket that actually encourages natural bone growth over the prosthesis." Quote

It seems more unfocused than in the past. Part of it might be the presence of Neal Schon, but I haven't heard any albums by the "regular" Santana band for a long time, either. Quote

But he and Carlos are very different guitarists/musicians than they were in 1971-2 (Schon was only 17-18 then), and "the starmaking machinery behind the popular song" takes its toll for sure. I look forward to giving this a listen. I tried the link above to the album and couldn't get sufficient volume for some reason - I'll have to try again another time. Quote
BFrank Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Second time through is definitely better. Still not sure if I'd buy it ... but MAYBE! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 I like this one: (Favre/Schweizer/Kowald) Quote
