Never heard of them. Will check out.

These guys are my go-to polyphony fix:

Thanks. Yes, Binchois Consort is excellent! I have that very album plus a few others by them on Hyperion. Many good ensembles on that label.

That was only my first listen.  I recently picked up the CD at library book sale.

Initial impressions:  It sounded like "old-school" (as in mid-20th c.) Bach.  Romanticized and rhapsodic, rather than architectural.  Not at all HIP -- but I enjoyed it.

What are your thoughts on Pires' Bach?

Thnx .... my impressions similar to yours aka quite good, but due to stiff competition nothing to shout from the rooftops ....

Do you like it ?

Haven't purchased it yet.  So you decided not to buy the box?  Or did you buy it and not like it?

Aribert Reimann (1936 - 2024)    R.I.P ....

R.I.P. I long ago considered listening to some of his operas (e.g. Lear, das Schloss, Medea) but never got around to it.😢

Recorded @ Marl, Recklinghausen in 1984 after two live performances .... Oscar Shumsky waived his concert fee to finance this recording which remained unissued for nearly 40 years .... the romantic drama is mesmerizing here ....

... a little underwhelmed by the music (i listened to, Nos. 4,5), didn't bought it. The fourth symphony doesn't sound coherent to me. Just my opinion. I don't want to end up with an enormous collection for no reason. It's easy to drown in his own pretensions.
