A Lark Ascending
Disc 2 of the Ruggles - love the straightforward hymn at the end after two discs of gritty beauty. Also particularly liked the solo piano 'Evocations'. The Finzi pieces have never really grabbed me in the past; but I've really warmed to them of late. There's one of those wonderful visionary moments you get in RVW in the second piece of 'Dies Natalis', brought on by some wonderful chord changes. David Ayers
As foisted on me by S.P.E.C.T.R.E., the Illuminati, the EU, and other sinister elites, who want to create an industrial slave army by depriving me of tunes. And guess what? It's working.

A Lark Ascending
Not really 'classical' but what's in a genre label? Very fitting for morning lolling in the garden in the current warm weather.

king ubu
Had this in the mail yesterday, and played Op. 20 right away ... that then prompted me to search for this here: Played Opp. 1 and 2, now into Op. 17 (quite a difference indeed) and looking forward to their take on Op. 20 later today or maybe tomorrow. Don't have any complete set, so alas I am missing Op. 9 as of now.

Went on with Opp. 20 and 33 by the Schneider Quartet - what a great bunch of pieces, and thoroughly interesting to see the development and changes from one set to the next ... now playing Op. 33 by the Mosaïques - quite a contrast, but I guess these two are cool to have alongside! A Lark Ascending
Never noticed the similarity between 'Fetes' from the Nocturnes and the Holst of 'The Planets' before. 15 years or so between them so I's imagine Holst was familiar through performance or score.
