Larry Kart Posted May 16, 2021 Report Posted May 16, 2021 Wow -- how did I ever miss this?Maybe I was seduced by my old Maderna LP, lavishly slow, but this Serenade is superb. And I haven't even gotten to Five Pieces yet. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 Villa-Lobos Nonetto and Quatuor, two chamber works, on a Capitol LP conducted by Roger Wagner. There are fantastic, and they don't seem to have been recorded very often, if at all, since this 1950s LP. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) Villa-Lobos, Forest of the Amazon (1959). This may have been the last thing he wrote, and I believe this is the only stereo recording of him conducting. This version runs 47 minutes. I prefer this recording, and this edit, to the 75-minute version which was recorded posthumously. Here is the full album: Edited May 18, 2021 by Teasing the Korean Quote

Yes, he composed a number of very good string quartets and also some symphonies. The funny part is that his non-piano compositions are more interesting than the music he composed for piano/ Now playing Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Now listening to to Green Mansions by Bronislau Kaper and Heitor Villa-Lobos. Kaper had to rework Villa-Lobos's music for the film, and also wrote his own passages. Villa-Lobos reworked his own composition into Forest of the Amazon, which I posted earlier. Quote
