FWIW, maybe the second most melancholic piece I know (more acidic than the Rathaus and also on YouTube) is Constant Lambert's Concerto for Piano and Nine Instruments, dedicated to Lambert's composer friend Peter Warlock, a suicide, and with jazz elements evident at times.
