Larry Kart Posted January 30, 2021 Report Posted January 30, 2021 "Rusalka" -- the Fleming/MacKarras recording, although I also have the Chalabala on LPs. What a lovely opera. Quote

Larry Kart Posted January 30, 2021 Report Posted January 30, 2021 Fischer-Dieskau's three DGG boxes worth (three LPs each) of Hugh Wolf Lieder with Barenboim from the mid 1970s. Thanks be I paid about 4 bucks for each of these boxes used because I pretty much hate these over-emphatic often speech-sung performances that border on outright yelling at times. I don't dislike D F-D under all conditions, but this stuff -- yeesh. And Wolf was supposed to be in his wheelhouse. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 31, 2021 Report Posted January 31, 2021 Spent a while this afternoon with Elgar's Enigma. Nimrod can bring me to tears. Listened to recordings by the composer, Toscanini, Monteux, Boult and Jochum. Each has merits but the Monteux kills me. 1 hour ago, Larry Kart said: Fischer-Dieskau's three DGG boxes worth (three LPs each) of Hugh Wolf Lieder with Barenboim from the mid 1970s. It is sad they became more and more market oriented after SONY/BMG bought them a few years later. They still do some nice new productions, but they sell out fast, and I cannot see much of a knowledgeable A & R mind directing the label. Quote
