This is the most inspiring Haydn keyboard disc I have heard in decades. Pierre Gallon approches him from the right direction, i.e. the Italian stylistic influences he was exposed to, and chooses the right model harpsichord, a German - perfect for a blindfold test. The liner notes put this into the proper historic context. This pre-1770 Haydn belongs to the pre-classical, not the classical style. Highly recommended for a renewed look at this composer.

I am not the biggest fan of Haydn (although I greatly prefer him to Mozart, whom - with a few notable exceptions - I really cannot listen to), but this is nice music and excellent performance for sure.
