I'm familiar with Gulda's Beethoven (and I like it very much) -- but I've never heard Richter or Verdenikov play LvB.

Do you have any particular "starting point" recommendations for these latter two?

Dvorak Violin Concerto is fantastic ! Sound quality as is the performance. Love this disc.

I'm finding that Teldec recorded the orchestra a little too far away - there's more room reverberation than if miked closer, therefore more echo and less detail.  Do you think differently?  Just curious.

I am somewhat disappointed. The label used a modern Steinwaay D piano, ignoring the fact that its sound and touch are quite different from the pianos when these recordings were made. Some subleties are lost, the magic the Condon Collection recordings transmit is lost.

Glenn Gould made a similarly themed album and penned his own liner notes, which are genuinely hilarious!

Both the record and the liner notes are highly recommended!
