mikeweil Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Arguably the finest recording of these pieces, on a copy of a Nicholas Dumont harpsichord by John Philips. Excellent sound, too. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Interesting to hear and subtly done. But the arrangements inevitably miss the fleet-footedness of the originals. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) No 1 of latter. Later that same day... Disc 2 - piano pieces - off last. And the following morning: Disc 1 of the first. Edited August 24, 2016 by A Lark Ascending Quote

Balladeer Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 Lars Vogt - For Children (Cavi) Music programatically written for children and youth. But intended of course for adults. You have dreamy miniatures of contemporary composer Thomas Larcher written exclusively for Vogt, some haunting Schumann and those knockout Bartok pieces. Sven Vogt is a remarkable young pianist. Simon rattle raved about Vogt´s touch. It´s truely sublime and this little gem of an album is proof. BTW "For children" has the cutest cover pic I´ve seen in classical music... Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 (edited) Been enjoying this for quite a few years now. There only appears to be one other full CD devoted to Pulkkis. Surprised - it's contemporary but colourful and accessible. Disc 2 Edited August 25, 2016 by A Lark Ascending Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 SQ 1 again (using the Baedeker guide - wouldn't have noticed the second violin's wah-wah jazz trumpet effects in the third movement without it). Quote
