Balladeer Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) Richie Beirach, Gregor Huebner, George Mraz - Round about Mompou (ACT) Ravishing variations over Federico Mompous Musica Callada. With his "Round about" cylce of three albums (Bartok, Mompou, Monteverdi) Beirach proves to be a musical genius. And by presenting German violinist Gregor Huebner he came up with a sensational discovery. Marvellous music that belongs to a dozen albums I esteem extremely high. If I'm taking just ONE Bruckner recording to my desert island, THIS IS IT. Now listening to more music from this wonderful conductor. This time it's LvB's Eroica with the London SO. jeffcrom Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 It's been too long since I listened to any of Stockhausen's music. Tonight it's the "Greeting" and first act of Donnerstag aus Licht. I don't begin to understand what's going on here as an opera / story, but the music is wonderful. Quote

Act two - Michaels Reise um die Erde (Michael's Journey Around the Earth) - basically a 50-minute trumpet concerto for Markus Stockhausen. Lest nepotism be invoked, I'll opine that Markus Stockhausen is one of the best trumpet players on the planet. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Sally Beamish - Viola Conceto 2; Whitescape; Sangsters Birtwistle - Chamber Music . ECM collection of chamber and vocal pieces. Very beautiful - I mostly know his vast orchestral pieces that move like ice sheets. Here the music seems more watery and translucent. Birtwistle - Nenia: The Death of Orpheus; The Fields of Sorrow; Verses for Ensemble Sally Beamish - Seavaigers; The Seafarer Trio Quote
