JSngry Posted January 6, 2016 Report Posted January 6, 2016 Dude's playing the Miller gig, stands up for his solos, sneaks in some Gonsalves/Lockjaw harmonies in his 8-12 bars then sits the fuck down and goes back to playing the Miller gig, nobody bats an eye. Who the hell was this guy? Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted January 6, 2016 Report Posted January 6, 2016 Don't know anything about Lorden, but he's a veteran sideman, spending a long, long time in Harry James' bands from the '40s through the '60s (mostly on alto), and then a few years in that Miller band under both McKinley and Buddy DeFranco. Lorden seems to be one of those eternal go-to fine musicians (all the reeds, some arranging) that are the backbone of the professional scene now long-gone. Quote
JSngry Posted January 7, 2016 Author Report Posted January 7, 2016 Fleeting though they may be, those are probably some of the most "out" notes ever played on any kind of a Glenn Miller gig. It's kind of awesome in a very minuscule universe type way. That "Little Brown Jug" solo is 8 bars of When Worlds Collide. Quote
