mikeweil Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Does anyone know the order in which the tracks on the legendary concert by Les McCann & Eddie Harris at the Montreux Jazz Festival were actually played? The Master numbers are in LP track sequence, which is different. I know that "Cold Duck Time" was the encore. The video of the concert should have the correct sequence, does anyone have that? Thanks, as always. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Goodness, you're right. Never thought of it before. Hope someone can elucidate. But will the video be in the correct order? Why would it be different to the issued album? I assume the original masters are among those lots in Atlantic's fire. MG Quote

Yes - in his notes to the Montreux Festival anniversary CD reissue Joel Dorn admitted they had to dub the bonus track, Kaftan, from the videotape. Edited December 4, 2015 by mikeweil Quote
king ubu Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 hm, the video file I once had (or still have, somewhere, no clue), has the sequence wrong then, too (the note at the bottom comes from the info I got with the video, which is 45 minutes long): 1. Cold Duck Time (Eddie Harris) 2. Kathleen's Theme (Les McCann) 3. Compared to What (Gene McDaniels) 4. Kaftan (Leroy Vinnegar) 5. Listen Here (Eddie Harris) Note: setlist of the album does not contain Listen Here, Kaftan is a bonus track, the album in addition to the three other titles listed above contains You Got It In Your Soulness (McCann) and The Generation Gap (McCann) Quote
BFrank Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 I asked someone who should know, and he's pretty sure the video would be in the correct order. Quote
mikeweil Posted December 6, 2015 Author Report Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) Then why, for goodsakes, didn't they add Listen Here as second bonus track to the anniversary CD? Edited December 6, 2015 by mikeweil Quote
l p Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 these setlists seem to usually be correct http://www.montreuxjazzlive.com/concerts-database?title=mccann&field_concert_date_value%5Bvalue%5D%5Byear%5D=1969 1. Cold Duck Time (07:08) 2. Kathleen's Theme (06:13) 3. Compared to What (08:55) 4. Kaftan (07:59) Quote
mikeweil Posted December 8, 2015 Author Report Posted December 8, 2015 Listen Here could be from the Eddie Harris Quartet set - Ubu, do you remember? Quote

king ubu Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 @Mike: sorry, wouldn't have remembered ... but yeah, I'd generally trust the montreuxjazzlive database as well (both regarding the info about different sessions here, and regarding setlists/performance order) Quote
