paul secor Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 The 1950s and 1960s are generally regarded as the golden age of album covers. That might be true, but there have been some classic LP covers created after the 1960s. Feel free to post some of your favorites. Below are some of mine: Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I've recently been enjoying some of the humorously self-deprecating sleeves done by artists from the Dominican Republic. I can't think of any other serious music albums (not comedy albums) with self-deprecating sleeves. Here are some featuring Cuco Valoy, the leader of Los Virtuosos, and part leader of a duo with his brother, Martin, of Los Ahijados. Cuco featers himself as victim in all these. I LOVE the expression on Martin's face! (Cuco is an alarmingly great singer.) MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Here's another, featuring Cuco Valoy looking as if he's just discovered he really HAS got a screw loose MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 And a couple by Joseito Mateo, self-styled El Verdadero Rey del Merengue There's a Cuban band at it, too MG Quote
HutchFan Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) A few faves, off the top of my head: Betty Carter is so "photograph-able." She oozes charisma. I like simplicity of this. Strong colors tell the story. Just a fantastic painting (by French painter Raymond Moretti). Many of his album covers are fantastic, imho. Eugene Gregan did a series of album covers for David Liebman and Richie Beirach. You can stare at this for LONG time and keep finding more. So evocative! Edited November 18, 2015 by HutchFan Quote
HutchFan Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 A few more: "Groovy, baby." Rowles' self-portrait. Quote

Never saw that one before, but the Muse reissue - the one I've got - is as bad - and partly accounts for the lack of appearances on my player MG Quote
