Steve Gray Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) I have been buying these as they have been issued. I have only just realised that some early tracks are missing. There are quite a few missing on Box 2. e.g. Broken Busted Blues by Clara Smith There appears to be some discussion about this on the Fremeaux website but of course it is in French and I don't understand the point they are making. I tried google translate but It didn't really help http://www.fremeaux.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=816&Itemid=13 Does anyone know why these tracks are missing. king ubu Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 The discussion is from reviews in magazines (stating that some "minor" tracks were left off) ... if I remember correctly, Frémeaux communicated from the beginning that, different from the Django series, this wouldn't be complete to the last bit, but rather contain all the important sessions (no idea about their exact wording) - isn't there any info on this in the booklet of Vol. 1? Steve Gray Posted November 11, 2015 Author Report Posted November 11, 2015 Thanks for translating that for me. I can't find anything in Volume 1 or 2 to explain their philosophy of what to include. I wasn't expecting them to include every broadcast/live recording in the later years but I assumed the early recordings would all be there. I was taken in by the title "The Complete Louis Armstrong". brownie Posted November 11, 2015 Report Posted November 11, 2015 (edited) An example from Fremaux's policy is this indication from vol. 1: "Several double takes and pieces in which the star cornetist's presence is too discret have been deliberatedly omitted. Three takes were made of 'How Come You Do Me...' and although the second and third ones are extremely rare, their variations are minimal except for Louis intervention. We have regrouped some extracts on CD 3, track 18. We have, however, retained the entire first take (CD3, Take 17). Edited November 11, 2015 by brownie Quote
AllenLowe Posted November 11, 2015 Report Posted November 11, 2015 actually, "complete" translates from the French as "whatever...." Quote
