Chuck Nessa Posted October 29, 2015 Author Report Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Something more personal- my W-2 from 1966 when I recorded the first AACM sessions by Roscoe Mitchell and Joseph Jarman. I set up the first session for Muhal Richard Abrams but "ran away" before his sessions took place. Edited October 29, 2015 by Chuck Nessa Quote
rostasi Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Love the Transition flyer from '72."Transition" and "Triad" were mymusical lifelines. But, I haven't beenable to find out what happened toEarl McGhee. A fellow I spoke withfrom WNIB began working there in '74and didn't know who I was talking about.I even named my first radio show "Transition"back in the day. I know what happened to "Scorpio"and talk regularly with Saul "Triad" Smaizys, but Earl'swhereabouts remains a mystery to me. Thanks for sharing![ The "J." in McGhee's name is helpful!] Edited October 29, 2015 by rostasi Quote
peterintoronto Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 LOVE seeing stuff like this. Please keep scanning and posting, Chuck. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Was that your only income at the time, Chuck? Looks incredibly low. I think the $ was about 3 to the £ at the time, so I was earning your monthly average per week! (Mind you, I was doing an 84 hour week!)MG Quote
paul secor Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 That poster must bring back some great memories for you, Chuck. Quote
ejp626 Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Definitely interesting, but I would recommend pulling down your W-2 and posting it with the SSN obscured. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 29, 2015 Author Report Posted October 29, 2015 Image replaced. FWIW the W-2 covers 9 months, I started there in April. Quote
JSngry Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Please tell me that somebody has at least some type of taping of these things, even home cassettes, and that they are not lost to be found only in the memories of those who were there...at least some of them. Quote
soulpope Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 these were good times for sure .... Quote
Larry Kart Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Do you remember, have a poster for, a concert at the Unitarian Church in Evanston, with Roscoe, Joseph, Malachi, and (I think) Philip? That was sublime. Also, the Abraham Lincoln Day concert in Hyde Park (I think), where Roscoe and Lester wore tail coats and stove pipe hats and began with what seemed like an at once affectionate and semi-satirical takeoff on the Baker-Mulligan Quartet? Chuck Nessa Posted October 29, 2015 Author Report Posted October 29, 2015 I have no memory of this event: Quote
JSngry Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Not familiar with "James Johnson"...who is/was he? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 30, 2015 Author Report Posted October 30, 2015 IIRC, a bassoon player. Quote
rostasi Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) Is it not the drummer/percussionist from Ra's band?I'm seeing Chancey there too - which would be around that time of '77. Edited October 30, 2015 by rostasi Quote
