Volume 3 of the Django series is about to go into production re-mastered by Ted Kendall, who recently received a Cedar award for the Eddie South - Black Gypsy CD (DGF36).

I'm operating from memory, but I think there is very little overlap, that the Hep takes up where the Frogs leave off (and there is an excellent Signet cd that has the Okeh sides that were recorded BEFORE those on the Frog cds in R. T. Davies remastering, so it is possible to get all the material in Davies transfers with liner notes, sounding considerably better than the Chronogical Classics cds and including alternates.)

does the material on the Moten discs overlap with the excellent Hep 2CD set ?

No duplication at all.

The Frog vol.2 "Kansas city breakdown" ends on July 18, 1929 session and the Hep set begins with October 23, 1929 session.

Warning:

I recently ordered Miff Mole volume 2- Slippin' Around - Again from Caiman.com through Amazon marketplace, and received a bloody CDR copy, complete with a photocopied and poorly cropped booklet!!

Anyone else have a similar experience with this seller?

Posted

I have several titles, acquired as new, with poorly cropped booklets and which look like they were produced from a deskjet colour printer. The discs on both sides are in quite poor shape too but playable. These are their earlier releases though - the more recent ones that I have are top notch quality.

I should explain.....I'm not at all claiming the disc I received to be an official Frog pressing (I DID receive Vol. 1 of the Miff Mole series, also an earlier release, in an actual pressed copy).... I think caiman.com either did the knockoff, or missed the fact that someone passed this off as legit who sold it to them. If anyone knows that Frog has actually done this kind of thing for releases that they have no stock from an earlier pressing run, that would be good to know. I have an email in to David French to see what he can tell me.

In any case, I might have felt differently knowing in advance that I was buying a cdr... and passed on it.

Hmmm. . . I haven't heard about this, or encountered it with any Frog purchases.

Someone will hopefully answer your question at Frog. (It won't be David French as he passed away some months back, right?)
