Stonewall15 Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Got an email today (10/23) from Amazon saying promised shipment has been delayed. Will email when shipment is ready. What's up? I hope the Japanese have not delayed release of this long overdue Sony/Columbia CD. Quote
JSngry Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 I had one allegedly sent from Dusty Groove on 10/15, packed in with an LP, all sent Media Mail. So we'll see how that goes. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 I received one Wednesday from cdjapan, so I am not sure why amazon is delaying shipment. Quote
JSngry Posted October 25, 2015 Report Posted October 25, 2015 DG order arrived today, must be an Amazon thing. Two left at CD Japan: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/SICJ-16Amazon sellers offering it, no idea how fragile that may or may not be: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B010EB1GHK/ref=tmm_acd_new_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1445743356&sr=8-1 Quote
duaneiac Posted October 25, 2015 Report Posted October 25, 2015 I got an email from Deep Discount today saying my copy had just shipped. Quote
Stonewall15 Posted October 25, 2015 Author Report Posted October 25, 2015 I am interested in how does the CD sound? Is it the usual Japanese high quality? How about liner notes? Is it in a jewel case or a mini-lp slip case? OBI? Quote
jazzbo Posted October 25, 2015 Report Posted October 25, 2015 It's in a jewel case. The liner notes are represented by an image of the back cover. . . there are notes in Japanese but I don't read Japanese and can't say what they contain. I can't compare the mastering to an original lp sound, but it sounds very good (as does every reissue from Sony in the last few years) though be prepared for an out of tune piano. Quote
JSngry Posted October 25, 2015 Report Posted October 25, 2015 Maybe the color of the cover reproduction is just a tad lighter than the original? Maybe? Quote
jazzbo Posted October 25, 2015 Report Posted October 25, 2015 And yes, has an OBI, which shows a 2015 mastering. Quote
Stonewall15 Posted October 26, 2015 Author Report Posted October 26, 2015 Many thanx for the description of the CD. Hopefully Amazon will come thru soon. Quote
Stonewall15 Posted October 26, 2015 Author Report Posted October 26, 2015 Great news! Amazon emailed me that delivery will be Thursday, Oct. 29. I hope it happens. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Great news! Amazon emailed me that delivery will be Thursday, Oct. 29. I hope it happens. That's 2016. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 wasnt this one up until this point reissued never, because it sounds bad...i dont see how a new cd could be a better listening experience than the orig. lp... Quote
jazzbo Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 I don't see anyone here saying it was.It doesn't sound bad per se--the piano however is very much out of tune. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 oh yea, i think i was confusin it with 'last time we saw paris' Quote
Stonewall15 Posted October 30, 2015 Author Report Posted October 30, 2015 CD got here on Thursday, Oct. 29 (2015!!) as promised by Amazon. Hopefully "In Amsterdam" scheduled for 20 November will be delivered on time.Regarding "Jackpot" do not let all the comments about an out of tune piano dissuade you from getting this terrific CD. IMHO this is Brubeck and Desmond at their finest in front of a live audience. One of my favorite tunes is "Ace In The Hole" and the 10-minute version of "You Go To My Head" has Dave at his piano-pounding, improvising best. The recording quality is also very good- the stereo separation is perfect. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted October 31, 2015 Report Posted October 31, 2015 Wasn't there supposed to be a live Brubeck box in the works? Quote
jazzbo Posted October 31, 2015 Report Posted October 31, 2015 Yes, it was talked of a few years ago but there's been no recent talk. However the new Ellington, Blakey and Monk boxes just released in Europe (I have copies on the way) just appeared with no previous announcement, so perhaps a Brubeck may appear out of thin air one day as well. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted November 2, 2015 Report Posted November 2, 2015 Yeah, I saw that. I have most of the Monk already. Quote
