mr jazz Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 Good read. I hope he does some DC dateshttp://jazztimes.com/articles/168782-stanley-cowell-never-too-late Quote
Justin V Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Stanley Cowell is high on my list of musicians I would like to see live, so I also hope that he tours much more now. I missed a club date that he did in Toledo a few years ago (with his daughter on vocals), and my trip to New York this year happened to be the week after he was at the Village Vanguard. BillF Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 Stanley Cowell is high on my list of musicians I would like to see live, so I also hope that he tours much more now. I missed a club date that he did in Toledo a few years ago (with his daughter on vocals), and my trip to New York this year happened to be the week after he was at the Village Vanguard. Saw Stanley Cowell with Max Roach's quintet at Club 43 Manchester in about 1967. Quote
relyles Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 One of my favorites. I feel very fortunate to have been able to hear him live in a Music Inc. reunion performance a few years ago, and then being involved in presenting him here in Hartford. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 I hope he will come to Germany someday, I would like to hear him live. He has his own style free of the ubiquitous Bill-Evans-Chick-Corea-Keith Jarrett lineage, which I am tired off, and writes unique tunes. That solo piano LP on Strata East is one I pull out the most often. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 Caught him at The Barbican in the Strata-East show a while back. He was predictably good ! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 7th paragraph, what's that about getting a call from Miles? Nothing listed for Cowell in a search of Plosin's "Miles Ahead" DB, so what's the author of that article in the link in the first post smokin'? >> Roach’s band was really “the beginning of everything,” Cowell says. From there, the pianist got a call to tour with Miles Davis, and joined the Bobby Hutcherson-Harold Land Quintet as well. Quote
