birksworks Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Anybody heard of parody album called J.U.N.K.: Jazz University's New Kicks? I remember an LP in the 60's of a JATP-type jam featuring such luminaries as Can-E-Ball Naturally and The Lonliest Plunk. I seem to recall that it appeared on one of the Chess/Checker/Cadet/Argo labels. Any ideas on either its availability or who the mystery musicians were who made it? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I have a faint memory of the Argo lp. Something like Morris Grunts Presents J.U.N.K. Quote
Larry Kart Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 In the "Can-E-Ball Naturally" vein of sophisticated humor, I remember a friend in high school who envisioned a band featuring Furtive Cruller and You-Shit-A-Heap. Quote
JSngry Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 Wasn't there a Vinyl Freak column about this one once? I've got a friend who has a dub of a dub of a dub of a dun of this, and the parody of Ornette is something different than the rest of the album, which is pretty funny in its own way, especially hte narration. Whoever it is parodying Ornette is FEELING it! Speaking of Argo "jazz comedy" albums, anybody ever heard the thing by Professor Paradiddle? Quote
JohnS Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 I still have the English release! Quote
JohnS Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 I've seen the lineup somewhere (mainly session players rather than jazz "stars" if I remember correctly) but I can't find it at present. A quick look in Lord didn't reveal anything. Anyway here's the cover, sorry about the quality. Quote
